Charlie Smith
Managing Partner, Portfolio Manager


Charlie Smith serves as Managing Partner and Portfolio Manager of Mast-Head, LLC, which he founded in 2013. 

Previously, Mr. Smith focused on distressed public debt and equities in the Special Investments Group (SIG) at JPMorgan Chase & Co. (JPMC), where he received $600 million of capital commitments in his capacity as Vice President to invest in companies in the media and communications sectors. 

Before joining SIG in 2010, Charlie served as a Senior Associate at One Equity Partners (OEP), formerly the private equity vehicle of JPMC with $4 billion of assets under management.  During his time at OEP, he participated in over $1 billion of new equity investments in a wide-array of transactions, including leveraged buyouts, take-private transactions, bankruptcy carveouts, and venture-stage investments.  Sectors of focus included Travel, Media, Technology, Consumer Packaging, and Industrials. 

Prior to his start at OEP in 2006, Mr. Smith was an Associate at Gleacher Partners in the Mezzanine Fund, where he made investments in companies in the Healthcare and Consumer Goods sectors.   Charlie began his career as an Analyst in the Investment Banking Division of Merrill Lynch & Co., where he helped underwrite equity and debt offerings as well as provide merger and advisory services to clients in the Media, Telecom, and Technology sectors.

Charlie received a M.B.A. from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth in 2009 and a B.A. in 2002 from Colgate University, where he majored in History and Economics.
